When changing the name of a variable or routine, the programmer has to go through all the units by hand and change each occurence of the name.

Why not implementing the following:

1 - Each line of the result of a "Search in file" command can be individually deleted. (This way, a programmer can search the text to be replaced by "Search in file" and remove from this result list, all the inapropriate results)

2 - Execute a command "Replace in File" that treats all the lines in those remaining "Search in file" results, replacing the searched text by a new one.
